December Monthly Report

Issue: Lakes Management Plan Update Recommendation:

Management recommends the Board continue to provide input and directions
on the Lakes Management and Implementation Plans. 
Background: In December 2012, the BOD approved a contract with Williamsburg
Environmental Group (WEG) for design services for Keatons Run Culvert Retrofit, and 13th Fairway stream restoration, pond retrofit, and stream daylighting.

A. Non-structural Projects:

Ditch Reconstruction Program;
Synchronized Construction Services completed an additional 1/4 mile of ditch reconstruction in Section 2. This completes the budgeted $60,000 for ditch reconstruction for FY13-14.  The LOWA Roads Crew will continue with the ditch reconstruction as their schedule allows.  Thus far, the crew has completed approximately, 1,000 linear feet.      

B. Dredging Program/Schedule
Dredging is moving along in Keatons Lake. The operator is dredging above the boat ramp area.

C. Emergency Repair- Keatons Sluice Gate
On November 12, the Environmental Resources Manager, Don Rissmeyer with AMT Engineering, Cameron Smith and Austen Bander of Bander-Smith operator the sluice gate on Keatons Dam. When operating the gate it would not fully seal and water was leaking.  The following day LOWA staff was able to reduce the leak by 20% however; the gate was still not closing completely. Bander-Smith was contacted to close the gate and make an assessment of the entire gate. The cost for the repairs was $1,820; funds were expended from the 303 Environmental Resources operations budget.
