THE MAIN LAKE AND KEATONS LAKE NOW OPEN FOR RECREATIONAL USE 6/16/2025

6/15/2025

STORM RECOVERY & LAKE ACCESS UPDATE 6/16/25 5PM:
The Main Lake and Keatons Lake are NOW OPEN for recreational use, including boating and water activities.

All beaches and lake access points are open on both lakes, Keatons Lake and Main Lake.
Keatons Lake boat access remains closed for continued debris cleanup.

After recent inspections and with water levels receding, LOWA staff have determined conditions are safe for reopening. LOWA will continue to test out of an abundance of caution but after further investigation by RSA they do not believe sewage entered the lake from the pump station at the back gate.
Water quality samples will be taken Tuesday, June 17. Results will be shared once received (typically within 7–10 days).
Please note: While the lakes are open, members swim and engage in water activities at their own risk until test results confirm water quality. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to prioritize safety.

6/15/2025 8:30PM Update:LOWA Staff will continue to monitor rainfall, storm water management and lake levels. LOWA Maintenance and Roads crew will manage storm recovery actions throughout the evening overnight. They are working 12-hour shifts through the overnight.

Lake levels and conditions will be reviewed in the morning with LOWA staff to assess opening access to both lakes. We will provide updates with those decisions as they are available. As a safety measure the Main Lake and Keatons Lake will remain closed for recreational use, including boating until further notice.

EARLIER POST: 6/15/25
RSA has notified LOWA about a possible sewer leak at a back Gate RSA Pump Station. The station has been shut down and RSA is on site working on repairs to the pump. RSA reported that there was a potential release of less than 100 gallons of material during the pump flooding incident last night at the back gate. After further investigation during the pump repair RSA does not believe sewage entered the lake.
RSA MESSAGE: Due to last night’s flooding, the vacuum sewer collection station at the back gate sustained significant damage. As a result, sewage passing through the station at the time of failure was released into the Main Lake via flood waters. After that point, the station was no longer conveying sewage due to a loss of vacuum; this limited the extent of the release. Repairs to the station are ongoing. In the meantime, please contact RSA at 540-972-2133 to report any collection tank overflows to ensure a prompt response and remedy.
It is advised to avoid swimming, windsurfing, and stand-up paddle-boarding as well as any other activities on the Main Lake and Keatons Lake that may pose a risk of ingesting water.
In addition due to heavy rains and flooding last night there could be hazards that washed into the lake which make it dangerous to operate watercraft or swim in the Main Lake and Keatons Lake.

Members are advised to loosen their mooring lines on any watercraft docked at the Marinas and on private lots.

Storm Damage Road Closure:Road Closure at Confederate Drive due road washout at a crossover pipe in the area of 900 block of Confederate Drive. Detour route at Battlefield Drive.Confederate Drive closed to through traffic.

LOWA Staff has engaged their command center for assessing damage and to manage recovery from storm damage so far and to prepare for potential rain coming in today and overnight.  Maintenance and Roads staff are starting 12-hour shifts to run through today and overnight. LOWA will keep members updated as we have more information on the status of both Lakes from storm damage and flooding that occurred overnight.
