MAIN LAKE UPDATE 8/7/26: Harpers Ferry Beach is OPEN.
The Harpers Ferry Beach Closure has been LIFTED.
LOWA staff collected water samples 8/4/26. Those results have been received.
Harpers Ferry Beach=51.2 MPN/100ml (MPN/100ml=CFU/100ml)
Virginia Department of Health (VDH) E. coli threshold of 235 CFU/100ml for beach advisories.
All Beaches located on the Main Lake are OPEN.
Cumberland Beach at Keatons Lake is still CLOSED due to algae bloom (HAB).

Main Lake- COVE bordered by Cornwallis Ave., Washington St., Hillside Dr., Surrey Ln., & Lakeview Parkway SWIM ADVISORY has been LIFTED.
LOWA staff collected water samples 7/27/26. Those results have been received.
From the sample where the stream inlet reaches the lake the E. coli concentration was 122.3MPN/100ml. (MPN/100ml=CFU/100ml)
Further samples collected leaving the cove were consistently lower than the inlet sample.Virginia Department of Health (VDH) E. coli threshold of 235 CFU/100ml for beach advisories.
REGULARLY SCHEDULED LAKES TESTING RESULTS:
Regular monthly water testing at each beach was collected 07/31/2026:
A Beach CLOSURE is Issued for HARPERS FERRY BEACH.
Results from samples taken on 7/31/26:E. coli concentration was at 613.1MPN/100ml (MPN/100ml=CFU/100ml)
Virginia Department of Health (VDH) E. coli threshold of 235 CFU/100ml for beach advisories.

All other Beaches located on the Main Lake remain OPEN.

Main Lake Cove-Swim Advisory Lifted

Main Lake- Cove Swim Advisory July 27, 2026
Main Lake- The COVE bordered by Cornwallis Ave.,Washington St.,Hillside Dr.,Surrey Ln., & Lakeview Parkway is under a SWIM ADVISORY.
A sewage overflow located near the 1200 block of Lakeview Parkway has been identified today. The overflow has occurred on a private lot and has had contact with a surface water connection to the Main Lake and may have had the potential to have reached the Main lake. Out of an abundance of caution, this cove is under a swim advisory until further notice. E. Coli testing is being conducted in this location.
RSA staff are aware and responding to the incident. A water sample was collected from the lake and transported to the lab for testing.
Out of an abundance of caution LOWA recommends a swim advisory in this cove until further notice. LOWA will notify members when test results are received.
SWIM ADVISORY: Members swim and engage in water activities at their own risk until test results confirm E. coli concentrations at this location. This advisory is in place to help protect the health and safety of all users.
