KEATONS LAKE UPDATE 3/6/26:
Keatons Lake REMAINS CLOSED to recreational contact until further notice.
LOWA collected three water samples for lab testing from Keatons Lake on Tuesday, March 3. Those results have been received.
Boat Launch cove= greater than 2419.0 MPN/100ml
second location near the south arm= 1.0 MPN/100ml
third location near the dam =1.0 MPN/100ml
Members and their pets should avoid contact with the water as well as any other activities that may pose a risk of ingesting water at Keatons Lake.
Out of an abundance of caution LOWA will continue to keep Keatons Lake closed and staff will retest all three locations. LOWA staff will notify members when test results are recieved.
Sewage Overflow Advisory March 3, 2026:
Keatons Lake is CLOSED to recreational contact until further notice.
Rapidan Service Authority (RSA) has notified LOWA of a sewage leak at the pump station adjacent to the Keatons Lake Boat Launch that occurred last night March 2nd, 2026.
The overflow discharged an unknown quantity into Keatons Lake. The leak was stopped shortly after the issue was identified and RSA conducted cleanup with a pump truck and limed the contaminated area.
LOWA will collect water samples for lab testing from the area and will notify members when test results show E. coli levels below the state threshold.
Members and their pets should avoid contact with the water as well as any other activities that may pose a risk of ingesting water at Keatons Lake.
Customers in LOW should promptly report any issues with the sewer system to RSA by phone at (540) 972-2133. Technicians are on-call 24/7/365 and will respond immediately.

KEATONS LAKE WATER QUALITY TESTING RESULTS: TO BE REPORTED WHEN RECEIVED.
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) E. coli threshold is 235 CFU/100ml for beach advisories (CFU and MPN are equivalent measures for this purpose).
