Community Help Requested – Canada Goose Management Program
Lake of the Woods Association is launching a new environmental initiative to help manage the growing population of resident Canada geese in our community.
Beginning this season, our Environmental Resources team will be conducting goose egg addling—a humane, federally approved method used to help control populations and protect the health of our beaches and lakes.
Because geese often nest close to the water throughout the community, member awareness and support are important. If you notice a goose nest on common areas, near water access points, or on your property, please report the location so our team can respond appropriately. Nests are typically found within a few feet of the shoreline.
Why this matters:
Resident Canada geese populations have increased significantly over time. While they are a natural part of our environment, large numbers can impact water quality and public health due to droppings and nutrient runoff that contribute to algae growth.
How you can help:
Report goose nest locations using this link: https://arcg.is/09LSna0
Our staff will handle all follow-up.
Please do not approach or interact with the geese or their nests.
Thank you for helping us protect and maintain the health of our community’s natural resources!
