Kudos to LOWA President TC Phillips for sharing his reading of “Germanna Road” as being pertinent to today’s current issues faced by the Association. History always helps inform our analysis of current problems. He encourages others to read the book. Sadly, it is no longer in print. However, it IS available as an ebook online (search by title). Two other books by author Peter G Rainey are also available as ebooks online: “Finding Culpeper Mine Road;” and, “The Story of Gordon’s Flank Attack: According to Eyewitness Reports.” It would be appropriate to note some background on the author. Pete counts among his ancestors Lt. Gov. Alexander Spotswood, who in the early 1700s foresaw the potential of expanding westward, and was responsible for bringing over German miners to begin iron ore extraction from our local soil. Pete and his wife Cathy were long time residents of Lake of the Woods. Pete served on the LOWA BOD, and was Treasurer for a period. Also, Pete was one of the founding members of the Civil War Study Group here at Lake of the Woods. He is the Group’s Chairman Emeritus.
