The Keaton's Lake Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Advisory is LIFTED, effective today September 29.
SOLitude Lake Management treated Keaton's Lake for a Harmful Algal Bloom on September 25. Post treatment sampling and testing conducted on September 27 indicates that bacteria are now at safe levels of less than 40 cells/ml for all observed algae and cyanobacteria species. This allows LOWA to lift the current advisory and return to normal operations for Keaton's Lake.
Members may still notice surface scums because the treatment will cause the cells to die and float to the surface until they naturally decompose. Algae testing will continue throughout the fall as water temperatures remain above 70 degrees Fahrenheit. We will return to a biweekly sampling interval with the next test being conducted on October 9. SOLitude Lake Management will return for a follow up treatment within the next two weeks.
Thank you for understanding.
