Responsibilities:
The department
maintains an immense list of tasks associated with the
Lakes, storm water management, watershed management, dredging,
asphalting, surface treating, ditch maintenance,
tree trimming, leaf removal, painting, repairs, roof replacement,
pool maintenance, etc.
In addition,
the Maintenance Staff are your emergency response team.
During snow and ice events
the staff is in place to begin operations as soon as the
snow hits the road. In this way our use of road salt/sand
is minimized and dangerous roads avoided. Plowing operations
begin as soon as the depth
of the material is 2"-3" in depth. The front gate, Lakeview
Parkway, and the Fire and Rescue Building are the primary
sites during a storm. All roads, parking areas, sidewalks
and mail/dump stations are also plowed, depending on the
amount of snow being received. Once the snow stops all
areas are cleared and cleaned (this normally takes 16
hours). Our Maintenance staff, with help from Golf Maintenance,
works two crews, 12 hours on and 12 hours off, until the
storm has passed and all areas have been cleared. It is
then that we repair, replace, and make ready all equipment
for the next storm. Our in-house mechanics work the same
type schedule during these storms to keep all equipment
up and running. All residents are urged to not park on
the roadways and cul-de-sacs during storms. The same program
is put in place with hurricane, tornado, and thunderstorm
damage. As a reminder: When power lines are down do not
drive across them, walk near them, or touch either trees
or wires that are in the roadway or on your property.
The electric utility must be called to handle these problems.
Any trees on lines which are burning should be reported
immediately to the Security Building or Fire and Rescue
Department.
The number 911
can always be used for emergencies.
In addition
to on-site staff the department contracts a large amount
of specialty work associated with alarms, security, grease
removal/pipe cleaning, carpet cleaning, fire suppression
systems, kitchen equipment maintenance, and large replacement
projects.
