The local LOW Chapter of the National Society DAR sponsors historic, patriotic and educational community service programs that serve students, those who have recently become US citizens, military veterans and genealogical researchers. Current projects include local and DAR schools, V.A. Medical Center, sponsorship of lineage research workshops and preservation of Spottswood sites within LOW. Membership is open to women age 18 and older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. Meets monthly.

The focus of the Democratic Club is to become better informed about national, state, and local governments and the matters before them. Bowling League |
The LOW Fun Bowling League is a sanctioned, recreational mixed league for both men and women (over 40) that meets for 24 weeks from October through April at the AMF Bowling Lanes in Fredericksburg. Singles welcome. We bowl Thursdays at 1pm.
There are 24 teams on this league not including 15-20 substitute bowlers who step in during the bowling season when a regular member cannot be available. |

The LOW Garden Club is a non-profit group that joined in 1978 with the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs. Their objective is to serve LOW through civic and beautification endeavors. Annual fundraising activities enable continuation of these projects. The Club is responsible for the Memorial Garden adjacent to the ECC building, holiday decorations at the Clubhouse and the monthly "Keep LOW Beautiful" program, among other projects. Meetings with featured speakers are held monthly; new members are always welcome. Dues: $15.

LOW currently has several Girl Scout troops which are all part of the Orange Service Unit and Association III of the Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council. Troops include the Daisy Scouts (age 5-6), Brownies (age 6-8), Junior Scouts (age 8-11), and Studio 2B for age 11-17. The Girl Scouting program offers opportunities for girls to develop their full potential, to relate well to others, develop sound moral values and good decision making skills, and learn the importance of contributing to the betterment of their community. |

Horseshoes for Fun |
Horseshoe players of all skill levels, both men and ladies, are invited to play with other pitchers at the horseshoe courts at Hollyfield Park. Participants are paired randomly, with special rules for ladies and seniors. Horseshoes are available for those who need them. The courts are available for use at any time, but you can meet new friends and have more fun by participating with the group.

Club |
The Investment Club is a member of the National Association of Investors Corporation. Members learn how to research and evaluate equities, and to apply this knowledge by buying and selling equities in the club's portfolio. Requirements for membership are a desire to learn about investing and time to do research for the monthly meetings. Most research is done on the computer, with help from ValueLine or from an online service. The cost to join is minimal and the monthly investment is $40.

The Keyboard Club is a group with a common interest--playing music on a keyboard. Keyboards vary from full-size console organs, spinet organs and pianos, to new age electronics like the Technics KN2600 and KN7000. Club members have varying skill levels, from beginner to full Wurlitzer Theatre Organ. Members take turns holding meetings in each other's homes. The group also attends concerts and other outings in the Richmond, Washington and Baltimore areas. |

War Veterans Association, Chapter 128 |
Founded in 1990 at LOW, KWVA Chapter 128 boasts some 65 Korean War resident veterans who gather monthly for fellowship, dining and social activities. The club conducts Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies at LOW, holds picnics, outings and parade events, and offers educational programs and activities that recall the Korean War and honor those who served.

Golf Association |
The LGA invites you to join them on Tuesday from April through October to play golf with either the 9- or 18-hole groups. The season opens in March with a spring brunch at the Clubhouse, and play begins on the first Tuesday in April with a shotgun start. The cost is $3/week, plus any applicable cart and/or greens fees. Members are flighted based on handicap, and the Pro Shop
sets up the four-person teams. Membership is open to all LOW property owners, tenants and/or their dependent daughters age 18 or over. Annual dues are $20, and members are required to have a handicap. The $27 handicap fee is paid directly to the Pro Shop. A number of tournaments are hosted each season: Spring Tournament in May, President's Cup in July, "Rally for the Cure" for breast cancer, Sadie Hawkins Day, Member/Member, Club Championship, Member/Guest, and the Spring and Fall Two-person Teams. The season ends with a scramble for all members at the end of October and a closing awards ceremony in the fall. |

The LOW Lioness Club is a non-profit women's community serivce group that organizes and hosts many fundraising activities throughout the year to support various local charitable organizations and causes. Dinner meetings take place on the second Thursday of every month. Activities include an annual Casino Night, Fashion Show, a combination Flea Market/Craft Fair and used book and bake sale, food drives to benefit the Wilderness Food Pantry and the fall Heatlth Fair. | LOW Lions
Club |
The LOW Lions Club is a member of the world's largest volunteer organization. The LOW club was founded in 1982 and is now the largest Lions Club in Virginia; its members include both men and women. The club offers a full program of activities and services to the local community both inside and outside LOW, as well as to neighboring counties and across the Commonwealth. An inventory of sick room supplies and equipment is maintained for community use. Members are active in a wide range of programs, from eyeglass recycling to providing scholarships to deserving youth, as well as eyesight and hearing screening for Orange County school children. Fundraising activities include the club's fall yard sale, White Cane Days to support sight conservation, and maple syrup sales, among others. Lions from other clubs who move to LOW may transfer their membership.

Club |
There is no business like show business. Join the
LOW Players and help bring entertainment and cultural
enrichment to the community.
Each year, the Players stage two theatre productions,
performed in the LOW Community Center, with a different
set designed and constructed for each play. We welcome
your participation, no matter how great or small-either
onstage or backstage. Areas in which we could use
your talents include (but aren't limited to) acting,
dancing, music (voice or instrument), set design and
construction, costume design, sound, lighting, and
stage management.

The Lake of the Woods Veterans Club (LOW Vets) meets each
month, the second Thursday at 4pm and 7pm, alternately, to
promote fellowship, patriotism and the ideals of American citizenship. Open
to all LOW veterans who have been honorably discharged, retired, released
for medical reasons, currently on active duty or serving in our reserve
forces. It participates in LOW's celebrations such as Memorial Day, Fourth
of July and Veterans Day. LOW Vets will supplement and assist, not
replace, other veterans groups. |

LOWVAC is a non-porfit group of volunteer resident artists who plan and sponsor the annual Fine Arts, Crafts and Photography Show in October. Exhibition is open to all residents who wish to show their own work. Proceeds from the show are donated to selected youth and art education groups to support local art programs. Members also host the Gallery Wall Exhibit in the Clubhouse and serve as a resource for other art programs in the area. |

The purpose of the MGA
is to promote and encourage the game of golf in cooperation with the Golf Pro, the LOW Golf Committee and the LGA. The goal of the MGA is to bring men together to provide a social outlet and to promote and improve the quality of golf at LOW. The MGA also serves as an advocate for our golf course amenity. The Rapid Crew club's goal is to promote and develop rowing as a recreational and competitve sport at LOW. Adult and high school level rowing instruction is conducted using Rapidan cre's fleet of racing and recreational rowin shells. Rapidan Crew was formed in 2004 with the support of the University of Mary Washington's rowing program. There are ample collegiate educational scholarships as well as competitve adult and high school opportunities in the region.

The LOW Sailing Club promotes the sport of sailing by hosting organized races, sailing clinics, boat shows, rigging parties and fun social events. Competitve fleet classes participate in races and regattaas using the US Sailing Association handicap system. Non-racers welcome! Current dues are $25/year, $30 per family; racers add $80/year racing fee.
The LOW Sailing Club sponsors the Junior Sailing Program, offering spring and fall sailing clinics and summer instructional day camps for youth. Beginner and intermediate classes are held for children age eight and up at Sailboat Beach. the program introduces children to the sport of sailing and teaches basic sailing skills and boating safety using certified USSA sailing instructors. Dance Club |
The Square Dance Club was the first social club organized at LOW, and in May of 2002 celebrated its 30th anniversary. Square dancing can be easily enjoyed by people of all ages in reasonably good health. No special skills are involved, and the tempo compares to that of a brisk walk.
Club members dance on the second, fourth and fifth Friday of each month at the Clubhouse lower level from 7:30-10pm.
Instruction for new dancers is offered on Monday evening from mid-September to April. Club dues and tuition are nominal. Singles, couples and families are welcome.
