Lake of the Woods
Environmental Control Committee
The Environmental Control Committee (ECC), the only committee chartered by the Restrictive Covenants of Lake of the Woods, is required to approve in writing all plans and specifications for any structure or improvement to be erected upon any lot within Lake of the Woods. In addition, the proposed location of such structures, as well as the construction material, roof, exterior color schemes, and later alterations or additions to such structures are subject to written approval of the ECC. In all cases, written approval must be obtained prior to the beginning of such work.
The committee has the right to disapprove any plans, specifications or details submitted to it that are not in accordance with the Regulations and Restrictive Covenants of LOWA, or that are not in harmony with the general surroundings of the subject lot or with adjacent buildings or structures. In addition, any plans, specifications or details, or any part thereof, that the committee deems to be contrary to the interests, welfare or rights of the Lake of the Woods community will be disapproved.

The committee also shares responsibility with the General Manager for the enforcement of Regulations and Restrictive Covenants regarding signs, billboards and advertising structures, fuel tank screening, and house demolition, among others.
The committee, composed of up to 7 members, meets on Thursday mornings at 8:30AM in the ECC office. Dwelling and structure plans, tree removal requests, and other requests or applications submitted to the ECC by 4:30PM on Tuesday will be placed on the agenda for the following Thursday morning meeting.
