108 Fairway Drive, Locust Grove

PGA Golf Professional: Rea Hargraves
Pro Shop: 540-972-2230
Fareways Cafe: 540-972-2216

The picturesque 18-hole PGA course was carved into the woods of oaks and pines, and no two fairways adjoin. The par 71 course, with four sets of tees for each hole, is designed with a variety of slopes, sand, and water, and can accommodate all levels of play. Men, women, and children alike enjoy testing their skills on the fairways and greens. Golf course maintenance is comprehensive and performed year-round to keep the course in top playing condition.

Course fees are posted on the annual LOWA fee schedule. USGA rules and local rules govern all play.

A PGA professional is on staff at the Woods Center and available for instruction and to discuss the golf program with members. The Golf Pro will gladly explain the many golf events scheduled throughout the year, as well as answer any questions. Adult Golf Clinics and Junior Golf Camp are scheduled annually.

Golf starting times vary throughout the year. The LOW Pro Shop opens one-half hour prior to the first tee time. Tee times may be reserved up to seven days in advance. Proper dress is required and soft spikes must be worn. Golfers not properly attired will not be allowed to play the course. Members are responsible for ensuring that their guests are properly attired and familiar with the rules of the golf course.

The Golf Course Medical Flag Policy allows golfers with a physical handicap to use golf carts off the regular cart paths. Medical flags may only be issued to those presenting a handicap-parking permit issued by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Current fee schedules are available for individuals and families on a daily or seasonal basis. Look in Lake Currents or contact the LOW Pro Shop staff  for special twilight rates available for play during light traffic hours and the cooler months.

The Golf Pro and the LOW Pro Shop staff can assist members with establishing a handicap via the computer in the LOW Pro Shop. The LOW Pro Shop carries golf clubs and and other accessories, along with apparel stitched with the association logo.

In addition to housing the LOW Pro Shop, the Woods Center provides additional meeting space for Association and club activities. The Fareways Cafe in the Woods Center is open to all residents, not just golfers. The facility serves a varied menu of breakfast and lunch items throughout the day.

Use of Medical Flags

New Medical Flag policy effective September 24, 2013

Golfers wishing to avail themselves of a Medical Flag, allowing golf carts off the cart path (although still subject to the cart signs) will have to have a handicap parking sticker issued by DMV. That will be the test of eligibility for use of a Medical Flag on a golf cart. If you hold a handicap vehicle sticker you qualify.

Please bring in proof of DMV Handicap Authorization to Pro Shop so your name can be added to the approved Flag list.

Golf Course Local Rules

LOCAL RULES TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER NATIONAL RULES
Revised: April 25, 2011

USGA Rules govern all play except as modified by Local Rules below. Additions and/or changes will be posted in the Golf Pro Shop.

Out of Bounds – (Rule 27)

A. Out of bounds are marked with white stakes with the exception of the fence on the right side of hole # 16 which is used to designate OB. Double white stakes indicate the start and end of OB.

B. There are a number of golf course property wooded areas not marked OB. If a ball is lost in one of these areas, the lost ball rule applies.

C. If you think your ball is possibly OB or could be lost (and not in a hazard), hit a provisional ball. (Rule 27-2)

Water Hazards – (Rule 26)

A. Water hazards exist on holes 1, 3, 10, 13, and 14, and are defined by yellow stakes.

B. If the bulkhead on holes 1, 13, and 14 interferes with a player’s stance or area of intended swing, relief of one club length (no nearer the hole) may be taken. (Rule 24-2)

Lateral Water Hazards – (Rule 26)

In order to treat the ball as lost in the hazard (red stakes), it must be known or virtually certain that the ball lodged in it. Otherwise, the lost ball rule (Rule 27) applies.

Drop Areas – (Rule 26)

The only drop area – an optional area – is beside the pond on hole # 14.

Ground Under Repair – (Rule 25-1.b)

A. Ground under repair (GUR) will be marked by white lines.

B. Through the green, whether marked or not, areas damaged by maintenance equipment, tree stump removal, all areas within 1 club length of the cart path, any exposed gravel or rocks, French drains (from tree line to tree line) and exposed drain tiles, all cultivated/gardened areas, and mulched areas around trees are to be considered GUR.

C. Where property owners have improved/cultivated/gardened areas beyond their property lines these areas are designated GUR. Through the green, complete relief from these areas must be taken in accordance with Rule 25.1.b.

Overhead Wires – (Rule 20-5)

If a ball strikes a power line at the 2nd tee or behind the 4th green, the player must disregard that stroke, abandon the ball, and play another ball as nearly as possible to the spot from which the original ball was played.

Embedded Ball – (Rule 25-2)

A ball embedded in its own pitch mark “through the green” may be lifted, cleaned, and dropped. This includes fairways and rough, but not hazards.

Stones In Bunkers – (Rule 24-1)

Stones in bunkers are removable obstructions.

SUMMER OR WINTER RULES** WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE GOLF PROFESSIONAL (Check with the Pro Shop)

** WINTER RULES: (When in effect)

A player’s ball (in his own fairway) may be marked, lifted, cleaned, and replaced within one club length of its original position (no closer to the hole). When playing conditions are “Cart Path Only” for the entire golf course, winter rules are in effect.

PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO KEEP UP WITH THE GROUP IN FRONT OF THEM. IF YOUR TEAM FALLS BEHIND AND YOU ARE OBSERVED BY THE MARSHALL, YOU COULD BE ASKED TO PICK UP YOUR BALL AND GO TO THE NEXT HOLE, OR DURING COMPETITIVE PLAY, BE ASSESSED A TWO (2) STROKE PENALTY.
